Original Oil Painting on Canvas Board, 2025
16” W x 20” H (40cm x 50cm)
Daai Lou is a tribute to the artist’s older brother, whom she has affectionately called by that name for as long as she can remember. Raised together in Shenzhen and now living in different cities and countries, their bond has stretched across distance but remains quietly intact.
In the painting, two figures sit facing the same direction with space between them, gazing into the distance. The male figure smokes a cigarette, a subtle nod to a shared guilty pleasure and ritual from their youth. The lighting is warm and subdued, evoking a sense of stillness, reflection, and suspended time.
Though rooted in personal memory, Daai Lou invites open interpretation—of closeness, separation, and the kind of connection that doesn’t always need words.
