Daai Lou is a tribute to the artist’s older brother, named after a Cantonese nickname she has used since childhood, meaning “big boss.” Though they were raised together in Shenzhen and now live in different countries, their connection has shifted into something quieter and more distant.
In the painting, two figures sit facing the same direction with a noticeable space between them. They are not looking at each other or interacting, but they share the same horizon. The distance is intentional. It reflects a relationship marked less by closeness than by presence felt from afar. One figure smokes a cigarette, a small, familiar gesture tied to shared history.
